WILL YOU KILL WHAT'S LEFT OF ME TO STOP THE BLEEDING? There was something to be said of the peace that could only be created by perfect silence. In this case, perfect silence not actually being silence at all but rather the soundless chorus of the surrounding forest. Though the Foggy Forest was certainly attributed to its ability to completely swallow up all sound and block out the harsh sunlight, if one listened hard enough with eyes closed just so, the forest was just like any other. Luka basked in it.
There was something equally to be said of calm that comes over one when shifted. Maybe he was alone in his opinions, but Luka found that it was much easier to relax as an animal then it was as a human. Rational thoughts traded themselves for raw instinct - feelings turned much more primitive, more primal. Everything was simple, everything was real.
Luka grinned at the thought, a wolfish grin it was.
He lay sprawled out on his side up against a large tree. His thick, black fur occasionally buffeted by the breeze, his icy blue eyes staring out to nothing in particular. He exhaled sharply, but made no other movement. His sensitive ears twitched at every sound. He knew his surroundings better than they knew him – aware but not alert. A couple of crows sat perched in the branches above him, keeping watch for him though he was perfectly capable on his own. His avian companions were far from home, but Luka knew that a crow could handle itself. Their biggest threat at the moment was, after all, him wasn’t it? Should he want to, he could easily shift to his other animal – one of their natural predators right? Still, it was a wonder, the relationship he had created with them.
Crows and wolves in the wild worked naturally together, that’s what had brought them to him in the first place. Even though he was unable to communicate with them through is given animal telepathy, Luka was so in tune with the murder of birds that words would change nothing. And, even though it took time, they came to know him in all three forms – wolf, man, and eventually eagle.
Luka let the thought swim around in his head as he closed his crystalline eyes. He had little to worry about, and less to be worried for.

in the night i hear them talk, the coldest story ever told The forest reminded her of home. She hadn't visited her birthplace since she left over three hundred years ago. She wasn't sure if she could - did she even remember how to find it? The small elvish village was cleverly hidden so only their own could find it. Vanya wasn't really one of them anymore; she'd changed a lot in the years since she had left. Despite how badly she had wanted to leave that village, she still found herself homesick every once in a while. Sometimes she even felt guilty, having left so quickly without looking back. When her parents died, she hadn't known for nearly a year later, when a letter finally reached her from one of her brothers. She had her regrets, but in the end, she was happy she'd gotten out. When her homesickness got bad, which wasn't a frequent occurrence, Vanya would often disappear from civilization. She would spend days, sometimes weeks, in the forests that reminded her so much of home. It helped ease her mind of worries.
The forest was much quieter than what she was used to. However, if she listened closely, she could hear the occasional chirp of a bird in the distance and bugs in the trees. Something about this forest kept the voices of animals silent. The lack of normal forest sounds would probably frighten many others, but Vanya couldn't shake the feeling of home. Relishing in the familiar forest, Vanya walked aimlessly through the trees. The forest's ever-present fog kept Vanya from seeing too far in front of her; everything seemed to blur into grey mist. The sun's bright sunlight barely penetrated the fog that surrounded her; it only succeeded in making a soft orange-yellow glow above. The elf wondered what the forest looked like at night - would there be a total lack of light? The thought of absolutely no light was a little unsettling, actually. Though her element was technically a sub-element of darkness, created by darkness itself, Vanya found herself always wary and even frightened by it.
She moved expertly through the forest, her light feet avoiding the easily broken leaves and sticks that would only make noise. Though she wasn't hiding and didn't actually need to stay quiet, she enjoyed the game; it made her feel as though she was truly part of nature as she blended into the environment.
A black mass to her left caught her eye. Standing still, she turned her head to inspect the figure, her curiosity preventing her from continuing. She walked towards it, stopping when she realized what it was - a wolf. Vanya loved the creatures; she found them beautiful. She'd spent years studying their behavior, not that it was needed - as an elf, she was able to communicate with animals freely. Still, she was fascinated by the species. She found herself transfixed by the wolf, unable to take her eyes off it.
"Hi there," Vanya murmured, cautiously approached the wolf as to not startle it, "Well, aren't you a pretty boy." She told the wolf with a small smile.

WOULD YOU KILL WHAT'S LEFT OF ME TO STOP THE BLEEDING? There was almost no warning of the Elf’s presence before her voice broke the silence too close for comfort. Luka’s head snapped up, eyes blazing more out of shock than anything else. Just how she had managed to get so close to him without him so much as hearing her footsteps was well beyond him. Despite the unsettling fact, he felt his body relax. He sensed no malicious intent from her, and if her words were anything to go by, he was correct. That would explain why the crows hadn’t alerted him. Luka looked up at the birds with slight annoyance but they didn’t return the gesture.
Focusing back onto the newcomer, Luka felt his pointed ears rise in interest. There was no mistaking her Elven features - though her red hair did pique some interest. Luka had only encountered elves a few times before and they all had very light hair to compliment their light features. She held herself surprisingly confidently in his presence though that’s how many of the elves were. Most people would have cowered at the sight of him or tried to sneak away in hopes that he wouldn’t notice. As a wolf he did look quite threatening when he wanted to and in his natural habitat most assumed he was feral. Luka wondered for a moment if the stranger realized he was a shifter. Probably not. She spoke to him like he was a wolf, not like he was a human.
Luka rolled to his stomach as his neck had been getting sore in the awkward position he had held it. His head cocked itself instinctively as he gazed at the Elf with his icy blue eyes. What was she even doing out here? Her clothes were relatively clean, so she wasn’t one of the forest dwelling people that Luka would encounter occasionally. She didn’t act like one of them either. So she was just out for a walk? A little out of the ordinary but not too weird. However, the Foggy Forest generally wasn’t the first pick of many as prime destination spot. It held a sinister reputation, for no other reason than people not understanding it. The constant, heavy fog was without source, or so it seemed. The forest hid many things under its cloak and its unnerving silence created an air of emptiness. Most didn’t enjoy it in the slightest. Not only did this Elf seem perfectly comfortable with the wolf before her, but she seemed perfectly comfortable with the woods as well.
One of the crows overhead squawked and flew down to the forest floor where it landed at Luka’s side. The other one followed suit. They birds sensed his curiosity and wanted to see what the fuss was all about. The shifter wasn’t so sure himself.

in the night i hear them talk, the coldest story ever told Perhaps approaching a wild wolf hadn't been her brightest idea. Though she often considered herself to be an expert with animals, especially with how easily she could communicate with them, she should have been more cautious simply walking up to the wolf. She'd only been focused on not startling the animal, rather than making sure he didn't react aggressively. Vanya may have been a kindred soul with no bad intentions, but would the wolf know that? She couldn't always assume that she would be safe. More than once, her impulsive and slightly gullible nature had gotten her into trouble. Her instincts led her to believe that today wouldn't end up badly; she sensed no aggressiveness in the wolf before her. If anything, he seemed a bit disturbed by her presence, but it wasn't strong enough to deter her.
She felt the wolf's bright eyes on her, perhaps examining her. Vanya smiled softly, hoping to reassure the wolf of her innocence. Crouched on the forest floor, Vanya made sure to keep her distance. She didn't want to get to close to the wolf - not because she was afraid, but more because she wanted to respect his space. Vanya knew that generally wolves got anxious in close quarters, hell, even she did. She didn't know how this wolf in particular felt, but Vanya disliked strangers getting too close; she often felt cornered and claustrophobic.
Something about this wolf seemed off - he was different from the few she'd encountered in her decades of travelling. His bright blue eyes held something...more; something she hadn't seen before in a wolf. Vanya couldn't figure out what it was, no matter how hard she tried to focus. The idea that there was something different about the wolf continued to gain her curiosity, making her all the more interested in figuring it out.
A crow glided down from the trees and settled by the wolf. Vanya was confused about the bird's presence before remembering that the two species often worked together. If she remembered correctly, crows often fed on the scraps left behind in a wolf's meal. She couldn't help but wonder if the two were familiar with each other, traveling together perhaps, or if the two simply happened to be in the same area.
Vanya reached into her cloak for the sunflower seeds in one of her many pockets. She loved feeding birds and always kept seeds on her. Though she didn't know if crows ate seeds - they were scavengers, after all - it couldn't hurt. Pulling out a small handful, she scattered the seeds on the ground in front of her.
"I wonder if you two are friends." Vanya mused, glancing away from the seeds she'd scattered to the wolf once again. "Now, what is it about you?" She asked him, cocking her head curiously.

WOULD YOU KILL WHAT'S LEFT OF ME TO STOP THE BLEEDING? luka's ears came forward as he watched the elf dig into her pocket. he fought the animalistic nerve to move away from her. rationally, he highly doubted that she had anything particularly dangerous in here, and even if she did, he doubted that she would actually pull it out. if anything, she struck him as an animal lover, not appreciator. however, when he realized that she had delved into her pocket for a handful of seeds, luka found himself highly curious.
the crows squawked initially, as if untrusting. the two of them hopped tentatively toward the scattered seeds but made no move to partake in the stranger's gift. if there was one thing about his crows that differentiated them from the rest, it definitely would be their wariness. they hadn't always been like that either, but over the years of his interaction with them, luka had noticed a significant change in their demeanor. the crows were highly suspicious of most humans - all except for him. the two crows looked at him questioningly with their beady black eyes glinting. he knew what they were asking, he didn't need to hear their words. 'are they safe? can we eat them?' luka glanced back at the elf before snorting his approval. the crows happily cooed as they pecked at the sunflower seeds.
the shifter couldn't help the slightly awkward smile that graced his canine maw. his mouth was slightly open and the corners upturned but if one was paying attention they wouldn't notice. over the years, the crows had grown to be a part of luka and they, too, treated him as if he were a part of their murder. he would be the first to admit that they were almost always with him and he liked it that way. the crows followed him everywhere. whether it was to keep an eye on him, keep him out of trouble, or to simply be there he had no clue but he was't really curious about it either.
the wolf's ears twitched as the elf spoke again and he refocused his attentions on her. so she didn't know he was a shifter. luka didn't know whether to be happy about that or not. truthfully it made very little difference to him, but he doubted that she would have shown this much interest in him had they met in his unshifted form. many people found him extremely interesting until they realized he was a human - as least partly. luka let his pointed ears relax, falling to a calmer position instead of completely erect. he didn't know if she understood animal body language well, but for some reason he didn't particularly doubt it.
