application,
Eye of newt, hair of hare, web of spider, and flame of dragon. Cauldrons bubble, boil, and toil. Magic comes from every boil... What? Witches are not just some seahag with large warts on their noses. They don't lurk around dark corners and cast love magic for coin. They don't dance with devils, pray to demons, or worship darkness. Well, maybe some do, but not in the eyes of Ana, a witch of the good light. She hates these typical human ideals of what a witch or wizard should be. She has spent most of her long life righting the wrongs of those who think differently of what she really is in life. It has done some good, but recently the turning to witches and wizards has been more prevalent in the day to day activities of the world as it is known. Simply, the odd events has been seen to be the work of magic and who knows magic more than a witch or wizard? This should become interesting.
Ana was high born on the Autumn Equinox to a mateless mother of the light. She was sheltered in the woods as her mother taught her nature, magic, and higher education away from the crowds of a large city. She was well into her twenties before she seen anyone outside her own magical circle (always called a magical circle and never a coven by those within the circle.) She was educated in all the common tongues, and the language of magic. Her abilities soon passed that of anyone within her circle, and her curiosity for the outside world made it hard to keep Ana within the safety of the woodlands.
She was a wanderer, always off in the woods searching for something new to see. Her lessons were becoming dull, and she longed for adventure and to see something beyond the grove of trees that sheltered her. Her mother mourned for the day when she decided to depart the circle. With much love, Ana left the woods and ventured out into the greater world pretty much on her own. After several horrible encounters which she wishes to remain unnamed, Ana returned to the woods in distress. She doubted her own abilities to cope with what was outside her protective circle. Her experiences left her sickened, and frightened about the world around her. Yet, things were going to get much worse for the wanderer.
When she returned to what should have been the safe woods in which she was raised, Ana found her magical circle forever broken. The only people she had known and loved laid scattered around her homeland, broken, bloody, and desecrated beyond her comprehension. Ana had no idea who could perform such evil acts upon her loved ones, and her mourning was long and silent. As she laid her family to rest the deep sadness turned into rage. Her eyes were narrowed in an anger that would soon see her on the hunt for those that befouled her only loved ones. She hunted long and hard until she found the man responsible for the murder of her beloved circle.
Her power went uncontrolled as she allowed it to rage against those that harmed her family. In this anger she destroyed a village, the innocent died with those she intended to harm, and before Ana knew what she had done the entire occupants were far worse damaged than those she had loved. She couldn't believe what she had done, and in her sorrow she took a vow of silence until she could right the wrong that she had unleashed. She laid to rest those of the village as best as she could, and planted several trees as a memorial for those who had passed. She dreaded what she had done, and only used her abilities when she had no choice.
Life was hard for the silent woman. She was barely twenty, had murdered a whole village in a false sense of revenge, and was living with no one. She drifted from forest to forest living as best as she could on the survival skills her mother had taught her when she was younger. She was a skilled hunter and fisher, so finding food was not difficult for the woman. She could provide shelter for herself without much damage to the forest. Soon, she began to let go of her fear and anger. She knew that it was time to live life again. This time it would be different.
She would be a protector, and keep those who cannot defend themselves from harm. She would protect the forests that she loved. She would champion those that could no do for themselves against anyone who would oppose them. She swore this on the light of the moon on her thirtieth birthday. It was the first words she had spoken in more than ten years. Ana went forward.
She often shows up when least expected to come to the aid of those in danger. Just as often she would help, nod, and disappear into the wood once again. She fights an unending war with robbers of the road, trying to keep travel safe for those who do business through trade. She often aids animals who find themselves in harms way by not natural means. She is fearless in the face of danger, and will fight whenever the need rises. She is unyielding in her life, her goals, and the protection vow she made.

Anastasia McCray Deville is a quiet woman. She rarely speaks above a whisper. She is very thoughtful. Due to her past experiences and actions, she tend to think out things before she acts. Unless there is an immediate danger, Ana tends to be a deep thinker and plot out a course of action before leaping and running. Her intelligence is high, but limited to those things that she knows and has been exposed to in her life.
She is a strong survivor, and doesn't need to count on anyone to live. She can make her own way in any condition to live off the land. An excellent hunter, she is unmatched with a bow. She kills only what she needs, and always is respectful to use every part of an animal. Thus, she can trade furs, beads, and other useful items she makes when living off the land. She can fish, and often will do so while she is relaxing. Camping, fire making, and most of the other skills required to "live without a home" come easy to the witch.
She can usually be found beside a trail, or roadway, while lounging in a tree watching for trouble. She is normally only seen when she desires to be seen. Her skills at blending in with nature are remarkable. Most of the time those she protects won't know she's there until the danger is dealt with, and even then she might not make herself known. She doesn't accept money for her protection, but she will happily trade with those who have items she might need. Her protection is free, as per her vow.
However, in the element of a larger city our Ana is a fish out of water. Crowds and noises make her skittish. She gets nervous when she is indoors, and longs for the outside. She never sleeps indoors as it makes her feel trapped and smothered. Even caves sometimes make her feel uncomfortable. When she goes to a village for trade or news, she usually only stays within the open air market, or sets her wares up outside the walls of the town. Most of the people around where she considers her realm know of her, and see her as a wonderful addition to the community. Her protection has saved the lives of many, and her trades are always more than fair.
Ana has gone to larger cities to enjoy fairs, and outdoor themed holidays or festivals. She never stays long for the woodland always calls back to her, but she can manage to enjoy these things when the mood strikes her.
