There was something to be said of the peace that could only be created by perfect silence. In this case, perfect silence not actually being silence at all but rather the soundless chorus of the surrounding forest. Though the Foggy Forest was certainly attributed to its ability to completely swallow up all sound and block out the harsh sunlight, if one listened hard enough with eyes closed just so, the forest was just like any other. Luka basked in it.
There was something equally to be said of calm that comes over one when shifted. Maybe he was alone in his opinions, but Luka found that it was much easier to relax as an animal then it was as a human. Rational thoughts traded themselves for raw instinct - feelings turned much more primitive, more primal. Everything was simple, everything was real.
Luka grinned at the thought, a wolfish grin it was.
He lay sprawled out on his side up against a large tree. His thick, black fur occasionally buffeted by the breeze, his icy blue eyes staring out to nothing in particular. He exhaled sharply, but made no other movement. His sensitive ears twitched at every sound. He knew his surroundings better than they knew him – aware but not alert. A couple of crows sat perched in the branches above him, keeping watch for him though he was perfectly capable on his own. His avian companions were far from home, but Luka knew that a crow could handle itself. Their biggest threat at the moment was, after all, him wasn’t it? Should he want to, he could easily shift to his other animal – one of their natural predators right? Still, it was a wonder, the relationship he had created with them.
Crows and wolves in the wild worked naturally together, that’s what had brought them to him in the first place. Even though he was unable to communicate with them through is given animal telepathy, Luka was so in tune with the murder of birds that words would change nothing. And, even though it took time, they came to know him in all three forms – wolf, man, and eventually eagle.
Luka let the thought swim around in his head as he closed his crystalline eyes. He had little to worry about, and less to be worried for.
