WILL YOU KILL WHAT'S LEFT OF ME TO STOP THE BLEEDING? luka breathed a sigh of air as he settled his back against the trunk of a rather large tree. he assumed that it wasn't an uncommon thing for people to do - sitting against trees. well, at least not uncommon at ground level. sitting in a branch thirty feet in the air as he was, he probably wouldn't fit into that particular statistic. several crows were perched in the branches around him, their silent company breaching whatever loneliness he might have felt had they not been there with him. ever since befriending them, the world did feel so much more empty when they weren't around.
needless to say, it hand't been hard for luka to get into the tree. it was rather impossible to climb, with no sturdy branches really anywhere near the ground to grasp hold of, and rather precarious looking as the tree was long dead. it was a wonder as to why it was still standing and even more of a wonder as to why his crows called this tree home, but that was how it was and he wasn't going to question it.
for luka, the blessing of an avian shift coudln't have come in more handy as it did whenever he decided to pay the crows a visit. and, even though they should fear him, the crows had eventually accepted that despite the fact he was one of their predators, he wasn't actually going to attack them or thier young. however, instinct was a rather stubborn bitch to battle and luka knew that his presence as an eagle so close to thier nests unsettled the crows. they would become fidgety, refusing to stay perched on one branch in the same position for more then a few moments. they wouldn't keep their eyes off of him should he make any dangerous movements. it was a little maddening for as much as it annoyed him, so he made it easier for all of them and shifted back.
still, it was quite the site - a man sitting at impossible heights counting the seconds with a small murder of crows.

ޢޢޢޢ "Pleasure doing business as always Mrs. Typhin." The seemingly young woman smiled brightly to the older lady and picked up the few coins off the table before easily making her way towards the doors of the crowded little shop. Mrs. Typhin ran a small apothecary right near the local Inn where Raeras had gotten her new start. She didn't really come through the village much to visit, only to deliver things and pass through to get to her destinations. It was a nice village though-quaint even. Besides, it helped that the majority of residents were air elementals like herself. She ran a hand throw her hair lightly and paused, letting her eyes wander to take in the scene.
A young child being fussy, a couple holding hands as they walked down the sidewalk, multiple people walking or seeming to float to get to where they had to go. A smile graced her lips for a moment and she started down the sidewalk again. Raeras nodded to a few people here and there as she walked, though didn't stop to talk. Unfortunately, today was not one of those days to just walk around and catch up with people. She had business to attend to.
A few more stops were made to pick up letters or small packages, which she placed in to her messenger bag. She felt herself growing increasingly nervous as she lifted off the ground, heading towards Cyris. Thankfully, today she was not stopping there, but just the thought of the fire area made her shudder. Today, Rae's destination was Kleibos, which she had only been to once or twice. So the messenger was excited to be going back there for the chance to learn more about it.
However, Talon had other plans. The hawk always followed Raeras wherever she went, like a protector. This time was no exception, though they hardly encountered a problem...except of today. They were right in the middle of the forest and she hovered a few feet above the ground, Talon making quite the racket, and she just barely saw why. There were crows...everywhere. Was that a man up there too? Raeras really couldn't tell. "Talon! Leave them alone! I have places to be!" She called up to the frenzied hawk. He wasn't attacking the crows or anything, but he was flying back and forth in front of them, and as stated before, he wasn't shutting up about it.

WILL YOU KILL WHAT'S LEFT OF ME TO STOP THE BLEEDING? Luka sensed the disturbance before it actually came. Something had riled the crows up, and it wasn’t him. He wasn’t shifted into his eagle form so they should have had no need to be so fidgety. Just ten seconds ago the birds had been calm – content with his presence if only to know that he was there. The crows themselves didn’t react badly to him. Someone along the line Luka had reached an understanding with them that was far too simple for him to understand. He never riled the birds up like this.
That’s when he spotted the hawk.
Several of the crows squawked as the bird of prey flew in. Luka felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end and had to fight the intense urge to shift and take flight himself. A hawk stood no chance against a harpy eagle. He stood crouched on the branch, the situation having taken all leisure out of his stance and prompting action. However, two things stopped him – well actually three. One, the hawk didn’t actually seem like it was trying to attack his crows. Two, even if it did, with these numbers the murder would be able to chase the hawk off without casualties. And number three came running, no, gliding in not two moments later and called out to the hawk.
Luka narrowed his eyes as he looked down at the stranger from his perch on the tree. She looked distressed – though, in this fiasco of a situation who wasn’t? He took notice that she was hovering off of the ground instead of standing on it but couldn’t afford to pay her too mind heed however. If this hawk was hers, it was in serious danger of getting its eyes pecked out by a murder of, well, murderous crows. Luka turned his attention back to the air and to the hawk. The bird continued to fly around, almost aimlessly, amongst the crows that were definitely not enjoying it nearly as much as the hawk seemed to be.
Luka inhaled before letting out a loud but drawling shush that seemed magnified with the instant silence that followed. The crows, at notice of his intervention, immediately stopped their squawking and fixated their eyes upon him. The hawk didn’t seem like it was going to threaten their livelihood, and if it did, Luka would take care of it. They stopped their fussing and the air immediately calmed. He glanced back down at the floating lady before sighing and laying back against the trunk of the tree.
“Call off your hawk, would you miss?”

ޢޢޢޢ Oh for the love of... Why couldn't she have been born with wings? Or the ability to shape shift in to a bird? She loved gliding, but gliding was not flying. Therefore, to truly call off Talon she had to resort to other measures. She inhaled deeply and closed her eyes, hearing the sudden stillness as the mystery man seemed to calm his...crows. "Talon!" It wasn't so much a shout and or a yell. It was more akin to a name being whispered in the wind, but to the hawk it would be as loud as a whistle. The hawk stilled and gave one last squawk before flying back down and landing on Raeras' shoulder. She opened her eyes again and looked up at the man, rising a couple more feet with a bit of effort to get a better look at the whole situation.
At least everything seemed okay. She was going to give Talon a nice scolding when they made it to Kleibos, if they ever made it at this rate. "Apologies, he just gets a tad agitated in new situations." She said, eying the crows for a moment. "That's quite a bit of crows...are they all yours?" Her attention returned to the man. Now Rae did love her birds but she would never claim any sort of responsibility for as many birds as there were crows right now. Part of her figured they probably weren't 'his' in the sense that they were real pets. Perhaps something else?
Of course, the first thing that crossed Rae's mind wasn't that this man might be a danger, or crazy, or any number of things. It was that he looked cute. There her mind was again, trying to turn every run in with the opposite gender in to an opportunity to flirt. She shook her head a bit and focused again. "My name is Raeras by the way, may I ask yours?" Talon fidgeted, digging in to her skin a bit through the light fabric, causing Rae to shoot the hawk a look that made him fly off to a near by branch, opposite the crows and man.A nice scolding indeed.

WILL YOU KILL WHAT'S LEFT OF ME TO STOP THE BLEEDING? Luka watched with dull interest as she called out to the hawk. In the silence created since the calming of the crows, her airy call was far more audible than it may have been previously. So she was an air elemental. Not that it really was that intelligent of a deduction given the fact that she was still floating in the air without purchase. Still, the level of obedience that the hawk, or presumably Talon, responded with was commendable indeed. Luka wasn’t able to call any of the crows by name and rarely did he ever even exchange words with them. His connection to the murder of birds was simply instinctive by both parties – that was how it had started off anyway. Luka would argue that it had evolved into something quite stronger since.
Luka didn’t respond to the stranger’s apology, but he sympathized with her and with the hawk. It was only reacting according to what its instinct told it to. The fact that it didn’t attack the crows was a testament enough to how tame it had become under her care or some other circumstance. However, her question of the crows puzzled him. Did it look like he owned them? From her standpoint, probably. They did respond to his intervention and all of them sat comfortably in his presence considering how close he was to their nests.
“They’re not mine,” Luka responded dryly, “I have sort of a… mutual understanding with them.”
In truth, he had never thought of the murder of crows as a possession. Though there were usually crows watching over him no matter where he may find himself, he didn’t consider them pets or anything of the sort really. If anything, it was the other way around. Luka doubted he would be able to get rid of the crows even if he tried. They seemed far more possessive of him than he probably ever would them. Not that he ever would want to get rid of them – he cherished his bond with the crows far more than he liked to think. Without them he would be… incomplete.
Luka’s attention was once again brought down to the woman, Raeras, as she introduced herself. There was something about her presence that irked him. He didn’t understand it. She looked human, acted human, sounded human, but there was something that told him she wasn’t. Luka couldn’t place it. “call me frost,” He responded automatically to her prompting. It was instinctive for him to always introduce himself by his last name rather than his first. He only liked to let those closest to him have privilege of the use of his first name. It was nothing personal, just a precaution. It was amazing and horrifying the different things that a person could do with your name. He never handed his out for free and she would do herself good to learn the same.

ޢޢޢޢ Once Talon had moved off she moved too, picking a close branch and perching herself on it. Floating for an indefinite amount of time really wasn't all it was cracked up to be. Then, Talon moved to be beside her, though she didn't pay him any mind, and even if the bird couldn't talk, he knew that Rae wasn't happy with him. Talon seemed to not trust the man, who introduced himself as Frost. Then again, maybe in a bird's point of view anyone who hung out with that many crows was bad news. "I suppose that makes sense. A mutal understanding that benefits both of you." Rae mused, studying Frost a moment.
"Well it's nice to meet you Frost." Ocassionally Rae found herself trying to guess a person's abilities. She had a knack already for knowing if someone could control fire just from the uneasiness she felt when she got near. However there was no uneasiness here-just a mild curiosity. So he wasn't a fire elemental, that was a plus. "If you don't mind me asking, what's your ability?" Rae was a rather nosy person, people who didn't know her and were oblivious to how old she really was sometimes took it as simply a childish curiosity. Well, she was no child, she simply liked trying to figure everyone out and she was certain that Frost wouldn't think it was childish curiosity either.
She knew that she shouldn't be lingering. She should have just apologized and went on her way, especially with the way Talon had reacted; and, there were people awaiting letters and packages. Still, Rae knew they weren't too far away from Kleibos, so as long as she didn't let herself linger too long they would still make good time. It was an opportunity to learn something about someone she'd never met before- Rae didn't want to pass up the chance of adding some new information to her figurative filing cabinet.

WILL YOU KILL WHAT'S LEFT OF ME TO STOP THE BLEEDING? Luka took notice of two things as Raeras moved to perch on a branch somewhere on a tree adjacent to his own. The first was that she seemed wary of him which most likely had something to do with her hawk. Luka had no doubt that the hawk was suspicious of him. Crows weren’t necessarily the angels of the avian world and anyone who was considered friend of an entire murder of them was sure to mean bad news as well. But that wasn’t all, the hawk probably knew that Luka could tear him limb from limb without so much as breaking a sweat if he really wanted to. However, and oddly enough, the second thing he noticed was that, despite her caution, her curiosity seemed to win out. You don’t question people you might think could potentially do you harm unless you have a death wish… or you’re just that stupid.
Yet Luka had a hard time believing that she was ignorant enough to be the latter and he knew that she wasn’t the former. Maybe she really was just that curious. Her question was rather open ended. Ability was the word she had used, not element. If he really wanted to, he could grace that with a plethora of answers – few she would be happy with and fewer still that she would want to hear. However, Luka felt an urge to give her the answer she was looking for, despite his discretion policy. After all, he knew her element and he didn’t even have to ask her. Would it be that bad just to tell her?
Maybe.
Over the years, Luka found that very few people reacted to him very well when the predetermined knowledge of his element. It held connotations that he wouldn’t deny of his element but that weren’t true to him and it really was a pain in the ass to deal with most of the time. Then again, Raeras seemed like she had somewhere to be, something to do, and while that made the subject of her ponderings all the more confusing it probably meant that very little would come of just telling. Besides, he’d probably never see her again. Air elementals could be like that. There one moment, and just gone the next.
Luka absentmindedly stretched his consciousness out into the shadows. The darkness stretched and warped around him, it was subtle but noticeable if one knew what they were looking for – or at for that matter. Several of the crows shifted, no longer able to stay still, sensing the change in the atmosphere. “well, miss raeras,” Luka drawled somewhat lazily, “you’re not afraid of the dark, are you?”

ޢޢޢޢ If one wasn't paying attention, the shift would be hardly noticeable. It was getting just slightly darker around the young man, and the crows were started to shift and move, as if to distance themselves somewhat from the encroaching darkness. The only elementals that Raeras judged first before getting to know them was fire. All the others, well she found them more fascinating than dangerous- until someone proved themselves to be a danger with them. A small smirk graced her lips, ignoring Talon again as he seemed to press against her as if telling her 'Okay, you've had your fun, it's time to go now.' "I'm not afraid in the least."
Raeras knew that her hawk wasn't stupid or overreacting, knew that he probably sensed something he didn't like. Still, she couldn't hep it. Of course she had met a few people who could control the dark elements. Though only very briefly and never in a one on one situation like this particular moment. This was a chance she was certain she wouldn't come by again any time soon. Her messenger bag was still hanging across her, but she had seemed to completely forget about it. She would probably never run in to this man again, so the people with the waiting messages and packages could wait.
"Is that all you can do?" The way she said it could have come across many different ways. A simple question, a challenge, or a tease. Raeras had a feeling that he was more than just a manipulator of darkness. There had to be a reason besides just that ability that drew the crows to him. Talon seemed to give up and made a sound akin to a sigh before flying up to one of the higher branches where he could still keep an eye on everything, but was far enough away to stay calm.

WILL YOU KILL WHAT'S LEFT OF ME TO STOP THE BLEEDING? Luka was somewhat relieved at her reaction. Though he didn’t particularly care what Raeras thought of him, it definitely would make the remainder of this encounter easier if not a bit more entertaining. Though Luka himself took no notice, several of the crows squawked in indignation when the hawk relocated. The bird was smart, he’d give it that. His birds, on the other hand, were slowly becoming more riled but it was not so much out of nervousness as it was excitement. The murder fed off of his darkness and relished in it.
He couldn’t help the toothy smirk that blossomed onto his face at her challenge. There were few that ever looked him in the eye and said that with the same silent bidding as she had. Luka strengthened his grasp on the shadows surrounding him. There was plenty of darkness to be had under the cover of the tree line. That paired with his expert control over the element made him nearly untouchable here. Black sparks of lightning spurred from the energy in the air crackled around him. The atmosphere was electric, charged with nothing but the movement of the darkness. It reached so far as Raeras now. Luka’s icy blue gaze fixated on her and the branch she was standing on – cloaked in natural shadows.
Luka blinked, and in that second he was no longer sitting up in his tree but standing right before Raeras. Shadows made tangible from the currents of pure energy and control rolling off of him in waves swirled around his feet. The air had dropped a few degrees and the darkness seemed to pulsate as if alive. “of course that’s not all I can do,” Luka smiled again, but it fell just as quickly. Of course, he could do more than simple hat tricks. If he really wanted to, he could induce pain within her and send her writhing to the forest floor, but that wasn’t an appropriate greeting tactic, so he wouldn’t do that. Distantly, he wondered if Raeras knew, or at least had some sort of idea, as to the extent of his element. Surely, she couldn’t be completely uniformed – no one was – and still she had dared him.
The crows above him were frenzied, flying around in the electrified atmosphere. The air was filled with their calls of excitement. It was nearly deafening by sheer volume. Luka released his grasp on the shadows and as the air calmed so did the crows. Light once again filtered in through the gaps in the trees. The air was no longer suffocating or charged with raw, primal energy. The forest once again returned itself to peace. “what about you?” Luka asked from his perch at the end of the same branch Raeras herself stood upon. “air elemental I assume?”

ޢޢޢޢ As the crows grew more frenzied and the shadows grew larger and the energy crackled almost menacingly, Raeras felt the hairs on her arms and the back of her neck stand up. Even a few strands of her hair lifted slightly from the static of it all. Still, she kept her eyes locked on his blue ones and didn't even flinch when he was suddenly standing in front of her. Even the sudden drop in the air didn't seem to phase her. There was a spark in her eyes briefly when he spoke and she smiled again. "Pretty impressive." She said simply, eyes drifting to his platform of shadows.
Raeras had heard the stories of dark elementals. Most of them were horror stories and most of them were exaggerated in her opinion. Perhaps there was some truth to the exaggeration though. Still, she didn't believe that he was as bad as Talon seemed to think, or as scary as he may look right at this moment. Speaking of Talon, he was glaring down some crows that were swarming around his branch in their frenzy. Didn't Rae hear them? Couldn't she make them silent? Of course Rae heard the crows and their ruckus, but she was tuning them out for the moment. She also knew that this Frost would have a better time quieting them than she would. Besides, they would relax eventually.
There it was. Frost seemed to drop the shadows and slowly but surely everything settled back in to it's place. A quiet breeze ran through the tree tops and past them all, as if washing away the last of whatever may still be out of place. After a quick glance upwards to make sure Talon was still in one piece, she carefully turned to focus on the man again. "And you would have assumed correctly." Raeras gave a nod and took a step forward. "Though it wasn't that hard to devise due to my entrance." There was that glint in her eyes again, though it vanished once more.
"You can't quite figure me out, can you?" Raeras asked. "Something about me you can't quite place?" It was easy for her to blend in with humans, after all they were near identical. The only physical differences were that her ears were just slightly more pointed, and her frame seemed more delicate and she was perhaps an inch or two shorter than a normal person. Though that wouldn't make a difference to Frost, considering she could tell when he stood on his shadows that he was much taller than she was.

WILL YOU KILL WHAT'S LEFT OF ME TO STOP THE BLEEDING? Luka silently watched her, her brown eyes almost frustratingly calm. She seemed unfazed by his display of power and, though he was never one for stereotyping, he could probably easily overpower her. There it was again. That unsettling feeling in his gut that told him she wasn’t what he thought her to be. After all, how many plain humans did he encounter nowadays? Not many. If he was being honest with himself, he couldn’t even remember the last name he had met someone who didn’t have something crawling beneath their skin.
There was something about Raeras that he couldn’t place. Luka felt a frown tug at the corners of his mouth at her nearly perfect deduction of his predicament. She looked human, acted human, sounded human. The only real hint that she was anything but was the aura around her and her scent. She smelled Elven if anything, but Luka knew this to be false. Her features were too dark, and she was far too short. Her pupils were slightly feline, but not enough for it to really be noticeable. Luka was stuck – never in his life had he encountered a being he couldn’t place. Feeling his stress, one of the crows flew down from a higher branch and found purchase on his shoulder. He paid it no mind but was thankful of its support. The crows understood him better than most.
Luka didn’t miss the glint in her eyes. She was enjoying this, that much he could see. It irked him that he didn’t know, but more so that she knew he didn’t know. Goddamn. He couldn’t even reply to her without admitting to the fact so he said nothing. She would tell him, with or without his prompting.
Luka cast a glance to the crow on his shoulder. Its beady black eyes were fixated on Raeras. The bird was unbelievably calm. Usually the crows didn’t like strangers or just people in general – especially ones that bring predators along with them. Luka had the sneaking suspicion that the murder knew more about their guest than he did. For the first time in quite awhile, the shifter wished he could communicate verbally with the murder. The crow was not one of his shifts therefore he was unable to telepathically understand them as he did wolves and eagles. Though his bond with the birds did not require the use of words, they would have been quite useful then.

ޢޢޢޢ His silence told her everything she needed to know: that she was absolutely right and he was too stubborn to admit it. "As far as I've been told, I'm a Vila." She offered, watching the crow on his shoulder and then looking back to him. "I've never met another one like me, though I'm sure they exist somewhere. And I've been told that I'm supposed to be some kind of evil being." She flashed a grin here. Of course the elven seer had been completely serious when she pronounced Raeras the spawn of evil and that she needed to be cast aside, but Raeras still thought it ridiculous. Perhaps when she was angry, then the so called 'evil' might show, but she liked to think of herself as a nice person.
She shifted again, easily adjusting herself to sit cross legged in front of him. A normal person probably would have fallen right off the branch, but if you looked very closely one would see she wasn't actually touching the branch at all, but hovering. "What about you, Mr. Frost?" Raeras tilted her head slightly, ignoring the crow altogether now. If it tried something, Talon would be on it in a second. "I'm sure you're capable of more than just manipulating shadows and calming crows."
Raeras had seen a lot in the one hundred some years she had been on her own, traveling. Not much scared her or surprised her. She knew there was more to him than just what he'd shown, she wasn't sure how but somewhere inside she felt it. Her only problem was that she couldn't say for sure what it was. They seemed to be on a stable ground at the moment, perhaps he wouldn't have an issue with telling her more. If he did, she could just go on her way. Though now her curiosity was piqued, and it was the first time in months that it had been, so if he was willing to tell her more she was certainly willing to listen.

WILL YOU KILL WHAT'S LEFT OF ME TO STOP THE BLEEDING? Vila? Wasn’t that… some sort of Fairy being or another?
That would explain two things, the first and most obvious being why he wasn’t able to recognize her for what she was. Luka wasn’t particularly ashamed to admit he had never encountered one of her kind before. Raeras’ own skepticism of her species validated that for him. The second was why the crows didn’t seem to mind her presence in the slightest. If she was supposed to be some fabled demon spawn, then of course the crows wouldn’t mind her. It was the same reason they fed off of Luka’s darkness. The crows thrived off of all things considered, well, evil. They were known as ominous beings in themselves.
“I am,” Luka replied to her assumption. Of course he was. He could do many more things with his element past what he had showed her, but he knew she wasn’t referring to that. She probably wanted to know if he was going to try and suck her blood or something. She wanted to know what he was. This really wasn’t a game of twenty questions anymore – it felt more like an interrogation. However, the shifter had little reservation in her knowing. Though, given the chance, he’d much rather show her than explain it.
Luka cast a glance at the hawk who was still sitting statuesque on the branches above them. “is your hawk skittish, raeras?” the question was dry and pure in its purpose. If their encounter so far was anything to go by, Luka wouldn’t have been particularly surprised if the hawk fled or tried to take a go at him if he shifted. Sensing his desired action, the crow on his shoulder squawked loudly in his ear before it flew off of his shoulder and onto some of the low branches beside the fairy. It sent the hawk a wary glance, but didn’t otherwise make any movements.
The shifter himself stood unmoving. He searched his subconscious for the eagle but made no further movement toward actually shifting just yet. There was a time in his early life where he didn’t like to shift. As a young boy, the change was painful. Bones were snapped and rearranged to shift the body into that of the beast and for a time it was hard to even pull it off. Luka was far past those years of his childhood, but there was still something to be said about shifting all on its own. Though he didn’t feel the pain anymore, it was an experience that was just as alien as it was integral to his existence and even to this day, he liked having some mental preparation before making the shift.

ޢޢޢޢ Hm, this man was just full of surprises, wasn't he? Raeras glanced up to Talon and then back to Luca. "No, he will be fine." And if he wasn't he would fly off, but Rae knew he would come back-he always did. The crow flew off and Rae lifted herself a little higher-just in case- as she watched him intently. Whatever he was about to do required some concentration. Vampires didn't really need to concentrate, did they? Witches and Wizards did depending on what they were doing. Shape shifter maybe? Well if he was, Rae was curious to see his forms and wouldn't say anything. For now she would just stay silent. If he was a shifter, and really was about to shift in front of her, well it probably wasn't something he just did for people who asked him the question she had; if she was in his position Raeras knew she wouldn't.
Rae half expected Talon to fly off even though nothing at happened yet. The hawk had a knack for sensing when certain things were about to happen. Instead, he flew down now to land in front of Rae, almost as if wanting to protect her from something. Inwardly, Rae rolled her eyes, but she make any movements for him either. So long as he didn't freak out and cause her to fall he could sit in front of her all he wanted.
It was Rae's turn to seem like a statue now. She was completely still and her eyes were locked on his as she hovered in the air. She was mentally preparing herself for anything at this point. She didn't know exactly what to expect and she didn't like that. Rae preferred knowing well over not knowing. Oh well, the air fairy would just have to suck it up and deal with it and be ready for anything.

WILL YOU KILL WHAT'S LEFT OF ME TO STOP THE BLEEDING? Luka had already released himself to the shift. He felt his mind intertwine briefly with the eagle’s. Primal instincts were an easy thing to lose yourself to, especially when one was as akin to relying on them as much in his human forms as shifts. Right as he felt the transformation begin, a blur of motion caught his attention however it was far too late to stop now. The shifting process was far too fast, the moment he let himself he was gone and the instinct had taken over.
In mere moments, he had gone from man to large, predatory, harpy eagle. He screeched and spread his two meter wing span out for all it was worth – the feathers on the back of his head standing up in a show of primal aggression. Though in the back of his mind, Luka realized that the blur of motion had only been the hawk finding a new perch in front of Raeras, he could control the violent reaction no more than he could stop himself mid-shift. The crows above him squawked their chorus. There were very few reasons that Luka shifted, and fewer reason that he would shift in front of others. Most did not come with good tidings. He didn’t blame the crows for their reaction, but it surely didn’t help his own much.
As an eagle he was, well, quite massive. Though the harpy eagles were more suited to flying through forests than most, it did very little good when he was so startled with his instincts all awry. Luka beat his wings several times in order to reorient himself and regain his bearings before once again finding purchase on the branch. He sent the hawk and icy glare wondering, if only for a dazed moment, if the bird had done it on purpose knowing it would startle him. Luka snapped his beak in annoyance. Several of the crows had taken flight when he shifted and were still flying around aimlessly, calling out into the chaos with little purpose. Luka glanced up, avian eyes darting around as he shifted his wings to let his feathers comfortable settle. He screeched once to get the attention of the murder, and once more to put them in their place. As they calmed for what seemed like the tenth time Luka instinctively cooed in satisfaction.
Turning his attention back toward Raeras, he took a moment to consider the hawk before her. There was something very… human about the way it fixated its eyes on him. Luka had the sneaking suspicion that the hawk wasn’t all he had thought it to be upon first inspection but pondering would get him nowhere. The shifter adjusted his icy gaze toward the woman who now stood taller than him – the words in his eyes communicating far more than he could have said through words of mouth.
