ޢޢޢޢ Raeras wouldn't admit it, but she did feel her heart skip a beat or two while Frost was startled by Talon. She was prepared though, if he tried to attack her. However, he didn't so she allowed herself to relax. Talon seemed to return the eagle's glare with a smug look of satisfaction for throwing him slightly off balance. He didn't trust this one for a second-even though he hadn't given him a reason not to. Just call it instinct. A smile passed over Rae's features for a moment as she admired the shift. Of course she had an affinity for birds anyways so it was kind of nice to see a bird as one of his. This also made some sense as to another reason why the crows flocked to him.
She focused on his eyes again as he refocused on her. "Exactly what I was looking for." Raeras nodded, brushing a few loose strands of hair from her eyes. He was fairly impressive and quite majestic in this eagle form. Raeras had seen many birds up close, but this eagle was a first for her. "Thank you for showing me." She added, knowing that it wasn't very fun shifting. She had met a few shifters in her travels and that was one thing they all had in common; shifting may get easier but it doesn't get any more comfortable.
Talon gave a squawk of disapproval as Rae continued to blatantly ignore him. What was her problem? Why couldn't she see this shifter was dangerous. He nearly called out an 'ow' but thankfully it came out as another squawk as she lightly flicked the back of his head. "Will you hush. If you're going to be rude go back up to the other branch." She said with a slight edge to her voice. Talon did so hate when her curiosity outweighed her logical thinking. He ruffled his feathers slightly but fell silent, this would all be over soon.
"Is this your only shift?" Raeras asked, her attention once more on Frost. As stated before, she had met shifters, but she had never actually seen one shift. Raeras had heard there was a possibility of having multiple shifts, but she had no idea if it was a common occurrence or not.

WILL YOU KILL WHAT'S LEFT OF ME TO STOP THE BLEEDING? Luka watched with mild disinterest as Raeras argued with the hawk, but he couldn’t keep the satisfaction out of his avian expression when she shooed him away up into the branches above them. He cooed softly as she redirected her attention on him once again. He met her brown eyes with his own as she spoke – his avian gaze sharp and piercing.
The shifter shook his head in response to her question. One of the hardest things when shifting is not the change to the body, but the change to the mind. It takes many years of experience to truly master it. In order to shift into wild animals you have to make yourself, well, more wild. It is so much harder to give into one’s primitive side, but without it the shift cannot take place. The harder it is for one to accomplish the mental aspect of shifting, the harder it is for them to successfully shift. Without the mental, for lack of better word, melding, the animal fights against the shifter, making the shift and all time spent in it horribly uncomfortable.
However, since Luka was already within that state of mind, shifting from one shift to the other wouldn’t be nearly had difficult as shifting from man to shift. The only state of concern at this point was his footing. His second shift wasn’t nearly as graceful in the trees as the eagle. They weren’t that high off of the ground, so a fall wouldn’t be terrible, but it would be terribly embarrassing. Then again, he hadn’t had any trouble standing on the branch fully erect in his unshifted form. Luka glanced at Raeras before looking back up at the crows. They were all watching him with keen eyes. That was right, they preferred his second shift over this one. The eagle made them uncomfortable, especially when he was this close to their nesting tree.
Cooing, Luka shifted into the big, black wolf – his icy gaze never once leaving Raeras’ own. His ears stood alert, ready should the hawk make any more startling movements. All four of his paws found stable purchase on the branch. He shook his head to realign the fur that was laying too flat against his body for comfort but was then still. Several of the crows flew down from their high perches to greet him and his snorted instinctively in recognition. A few of them landed on the branch around him where they stayed. This was the form that the crows first met him in. For them, the wolf meant many things. Though the birds knew him in all three forms, it seemed as if they still, and probably always wolf, prefer his canine self over the rest.

ޢޢޢޢ So there was another form, she almost asked if he was going to show her, but he seemed ten steps ahead, already in the process. As the wolf stood before her she lifted herself a little higher so she could uncross her legs and land lightly back on the branch, standing up again. The wolf was perhaps just slightly bigger than the ones she had seen, but it still looked quite stunning- so long as it didn't try to take a bite out of her. A few of the crows moved closer and Talon gave another squawk- though this one was directed at the crows themselves.
Raeras was quiet, after a moment taking another step closer, keeping her eyes locked on his blue ones. "Very impressive indeed." She smiled one more and then looked to the crows, studying them for a moment. They certainly seemed more friendly with the wolf, but she didn't try to understand the crows too much. Every species of bird was different in their own way right? What really impressed her, as she focused once more on the wolf, was how balanced he was. If he fell, she could easily send air currents under him to help him land on the ground easier. Yet it didn't seem they had to worry about that, though she was sure Talon wouldn't mind watching him fall.
There was something more going on with him, but she didn't know what had him so agitated. Maybe she could try to find out later. "Thank you again, for showing me. It really is amazing." She nodded. Part of her wanted to reach out and pet him, but Raeras didn't think he would like that so she refrained from doing so. After all, it was still a wild wolf and she didn't know how much control he really had over the form.

WILL YOU KILL WHAT'S LEFT OF ME TO STOP THE BLEEDING? Luka bowed his head in response to Raeras’ gratitude as he could not respond to her vocally. He saw something behind her eyes akin to the way many people looked at expensive antiques, almost as if she didn’t know the proper social boundaries. He didn’t blame her. Though it was common knowledge that shifter kept most of their mind when shifted, he was a beast and every once in awhile he did lose control to it.
However, now in his wolf form he noticed something – a scent lingering in the air. Though his initial intent had been to shift back into his human form immediate after showing the fairy, there was something tugging at his conscience. As an eagle, his nose wasn’t nearly as strong as it was when he was a wolf, but even then he had noticed it. Luka had just written the mystery scent off as nothing or simply just Raeras. She was a creature he had never encountered before so it wasn’t that farfetched that she would have a new scent. No, but that wasn’t it. It was almost like there was… no but that wasn’t possible.
Luka’s ears instinctively lowered themselves. He felt another presence . Though his control over his element was not nearly as refined in either shifted form, he expanded his conscience throughout the darkness around them. He felt another being lurking within it, but there was no one else around. There was just him and Raeras who would have no influence on the darkness whatsoever. There wasn’t a stranger lurking, he would have sensed them before now. Luka’s eyes fixated their icy gaze on the hawk who seemed to glare back on him with equal intensity. There it was again, that almost human intelligence he saw behind those avian eyes.
The wolf’s jaws slightly parted and the shadows around him lazily danced without direction. The crows were calm. Luka, for the most part, was calm. The darkness was calm – if not slightly conflicted. Though it was true that the crows themselves had some semblance of influence on the dark, it was something that the shifter had grown used to. The interference he felt now was far different, and he wasn’t sure why he hadn’t felt it at all earlier. Wasn’t his elemental perception better in his unshifted form anyway? Luka growled softly, though it was directed toward no one in particular.
What the hell was going on?

ޢޢޢޢ The shift in the wolf's mood did not go unnoticed. He seemed to be more guarded and cautious. "What's wrong Frost?" She asked, keeping her voice gentle, not wanting to cause him any alarm. Whatever he was noticing or feeling had some kind of affect on him. Even though Raeras could connect on some levels with avian creatures, that didn't mean she understood their moods and actions. In turn, she understood land animals even less. Though he wasn't completely animal, now was he.
Talon's cold black stare stayed focused on the wolf. Even though he could not physically, or even telepathically for that matter, control the darkness as he once could, the power still pulsated through him, leaving an imprint of sorts to anyone with the same element. Even though this shifter hadn't given him a reason not to trust him, Talon didn't need a reason. He was a dark elemental, and as such he was a danger...just like he had been. Raeras was a smart woman, why couldn't she see that this Frost character couldn't be trusted?
Raeras followed the wolf's stare right up to Talon's. She couldn't understand what his problem was, he never acted like this before, especially not in front of new people. A small frown graced her lips and she shook her head. "I don't know what's wrong with him today." She spoke up again. "He's usually not so temper mental." Though, however reluctant she was, maybe the time was drawing near for them to make an exit. Who knew what Talon would do if they stuck around much longer.

WILL YOU KILL WHAT'S LEFT OF ME TO STOP THE BLEEDING? Luka’s ears twitched as she addressed him, but he didn’t look at her until she spoke of the hawk. He shifted abruptly back into his human form. Several of the crows squawked in startled surprise but for the most part stayed put. The shifter stood erect on two legs once more. “How did you get him? The hawk, I mean,” Luka asked with a single eyebrow raised. His mind, still intertwined with the dark, searched for the presence again – that unmistakable imprint. He felt it, that was for sure, but he still hadn’t a real clue as to what it was. But, no, that wasn’t true. Thinking about it, it was actually quite similar to the feeling he would experience when around other dark elementals, but this was much weaker, subdued, almost… hidden away or covered up.
His gut told him the hawk had something to do with it, but his rational told him he was being paranoid. Then again, Luka had always been more partial to his instincts than anything logic could whip up. But there was nothing strange about the hawk save for what was probably just some elemental interference. Maybe he was once the pet of a sorcerer who excelled in the dark element. It would make sense that such a thing would imprint on the animal no matter how neutral most were in the wild. Besides, it was a hawk, and for the most part it acted like one. Though that thought made his mouth taste bitter. Sure, the hawk acted like one, but it didn’t really seem to, for lack of better wording, act like it thought it was one. Luka was not mistaken in the intelligence he had spotted behind the bird’s eyes, that much he was sure of.
Sighing at the futility of his endeavor, the shifter redirected his attention back on Raeras. It was then that he sensed and urgency in her stance as if she just realized that she had somewhere to be. For the first time during their encounter, Luka noticed the messenger back she was carrying. Why he hadn’t noticed it before, he didn’t really know or care to find out, but it wasn’t hard to connect the dots. He didn’t want to inconvenience her and, really, he wouldn’t miss the hawk much. “if you have somewhere to be, don’t let me keep you.”

ޢޢޢޢ Raeras involuntarily jumped when he shifted back to a human so quickly, having not been expecting it. She paused a moment when he asked about how she'd acquired Talon. It wasn't something she thought about often. People normally didn't ask her either, it just wasn't something that crossed her mind. "Oh...well, it was quite a while ago, in the middle of winter. I was outside of my cabin, gathering some firewood when I heard a loud thud over the wind. He was lying in the snow, breathing but not moving, and his wing was at a slightly awkward angle. So I took him in, and he's stuck with me ever since." She shrugged a bit and focused on Frost.
It was a little odd, in a way. She hardly ever saw birds that were willing to fly in a snow storm or in such high winds unless they were flying far above it. Raeras didn't dwell on it though, why over think things? It just caused more questions than answers, didn't it? She blinked a bit and looked down to her bag. "Oh! Goodness, yes I was heading to Kleibos to deliver some letters and such." Her eyes drifted back up through the tree tops to the sky. They certainly had been here longer than she had intended. "Perhaps we probably should be going." Though she was more worried about Talon than about delivering things. "It was nice meeting you Mr. Frost. Perhaps we'll run in to each other again." She smiled slightly and adjusted her bag before looking up at Talon.
The hawk almost looked relieved that she announced they would be continuing on their way. After a few more moments Raeras floated back down to just above the ground and gave Luka a wave before calling for Talon and starting on her way. Talon stayed on his little perch, watching as Raeras started to move off and swooped down, landing on Luka's shoulder, his talons digging in just slightly. The voice that came out of the bird was deep, harsh, and just slightly gravely from not being used. "You would do well to keep your distance, Mr. Frost" Then he took flight, giving one last squawk as he disappeared in to the distance, glad to finally be away from the shifter and those blasted crows.

WILL YOU KILL WHAT'S LEFT OF ME TO STOP THE BLEEDING? Luka listened to Raeras’ story, his eyes leaving hers only once for favor of glancing up that the hawk. flying in a snowstorm, talon? that was one way to get yourself killed. The shifter felt a pit develop in the base of his stomach. The whole thing didn’t sit right, and he was actually glad that he asked to hear the story. It make Luka that much more sure that whatever disturbance he had felt had been the cause of the hawk. The fairy’s sudden outburst caught him off guard and his eyes snapped back up at her from where they had drifted away in thought. The haste with which she moved was slightly amusing. He followed her with her eyes until she was out of sight.
“perhaps,” he said in response to her rushed farewell, though he knew that she was too far gone to hear him at this point. Should the two of them ever again encounter each other, Luka might actually enjoy it. There were few people who desired to be anywhere near him, and fewer that he desired to be anywhere near. Raeras might make good company in the future.
He’d just have to watch out for that hawk.
The shifter sighed and turned in his spot. Maybe he’d look into that - elementally gifted birds, perhaps. Or maybe just some better sleep medication. In that moment, several of the crows squawked out in warning behind him. Being a second slow to react Luka didn’t realize what all of the fuss was about until he felt a rather large set of talons dig into his shoulder. A canine snarl, a noise not possible for the human vocal chords to generate, ripped through his throat and dark energy suddenly electrified the air snapping and crackling threateningly but making no lethal attempt on the weight that had settled on his shoulder. His mind was still fresh from the shift, he’d almost lost himself to it in that moment of unguarded surprise. Damn.
Luka’s eyes stayed set forward as the raspy voice resounded in his ears. Keep his distance? He hated being told what to do. Oh, ho, he’d find them again, if not for his own gain than only to defy the bird. As Talon took flight off into the cover of the trees, the shifter followed him with his icy glare. That was no hawk – Luka was sure of it, and he was also pretty sure that Raeras was none the wiser on the matter. Tch! The shifter let the air calm and turned away from the place the Fairy and her little pet had disappeared moments before. Teleporting back up into the protected cove of the trees that the crows called their home, Luka laid back against the trunk and closed his eyes. There were a few things he wanted to investigate and a Fairy he wanted to find, but first a good nap might do him well.
